The Middlesex North Registry of Deeds
The Massachusetts state
legislature created the Middlesex Northern District Registry of Deeds in
July 1855, Located since then in the Middlesex Superior Courthouse
at 360 Gorham Street in Lowell, the Middlesex North Registry is the
custodian for records of land ownership for Billerica, Carlisle,
Chelmsford, Dracut, Dunstable, Lowell, Tewksbury, Tyngsborough, Westford
and Wilmington.
Richard P. Howe Jr. has
served as Register of Deeds since 1995. Since he took office, the
registry has scanned almost all of its ten million pages of records and
plans. By the end of 2008, every document in the registry - from
the first one recorded in 1629 to the most recent one recorded just a
few seconds ago - will be digitized and available on this website.
Since December 2003, Mr.
Howe and Assistant Register Tony Accardi have written a blog on registry
operations and real estate news. Reading the blog
regularly is the best way to keep up with the many changes that occur at
the registry.
