Several years ago, we thought the registry of deeds would move into the GIS field. GIS, stands for Geographic Information System, is a sophisticated mapping system, all done on the computer, that applies all types of data in the form of electronic map overlays. One of the essential elements of a registry of deeds related GIS system is to have all land records available on the Internet. We have made great strides in doing this (all records from 1950 to the present are currently on the Internet), but we still have more to do. Much work is being done by other agencies, particularly “Mass GIS” the official state agency that oversees GIS efforts. Click
