The latest on real estate recordings and new technology from the Middlesex North Registry of Deeds in Lowell
The discussion of the implications of the July recording statistics will have to wait until next week – today we’ve been busy helping the folks from ACS install the three new combination recording terminals/document scanners (“Super stations” in ACS-speak) . The one in the mail processing room is already operational and the two for the recording counter are unpacked and awaiting setup. Fortunately, our volume of business is typically restrained, giving us sufficient time to focus on the new equipment. In a related matter, we have also posted notices around the registry informing everyone that Monday, August 20 is the cut-over date to the full scanning and return of documents. We are asking all box holders to pick up the contents of their boxes prior to that date since boxes will no longer be used. We will no longer accept self-addressed stamped envelopes for the return of documents, either. Of course, since customers who bring self-addressed stamped envelopes with them can use those envelopes to mail the documents themselves since they will receive originals back as part of the recording process. Different rules apply for documents received by mail. Those still will require a self-addressed stamped envelope to be returned.
